12/6/17 - School Safety Patrol

Several fifth graders at Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary are practicing their leadership skills and promoting safety within their school as part of a newly established School Safety Patrol.

Nine fifth grade students began their Safety Patrol duties on November 27, with an additional five students selected as alternates in case more safety patrols are needed or if a student is no longer able to fulfill their duties.

Members of the School Safety Patrol arrive to school early each day to remind their fellow students of the school safety rules and to guide them in safe arrival, dismissal, and movement through the building. The group sets a proper example of appropriate behavior and encourages all students to follow school rules at all times by complementing students who are following safety rules, reminding students to walk in the hallways and reporting any issues to the adult monitors, staff members or principal. Members of the Safety Patrol are expected to display dependability, a positive attitude, courtesy towards others, a high level of responsibility, and good academic standing at all times.

The Safety Patrol members were selected after each interested student completed an application, provided two teacher references and had a short interview with Principal Welch. During the interviews, students were asked to explain why they believed they would be a good candidate for the Safety Patrol and how they would help other students while serving in that role.

Throughout their time on the School Safety Patrol, members will continue to attend required training sessions and regular patrol meetings.
