10/11/18 - Fire Prevention Week
Elementary students had a very informative and exciting visit from the local fire department for Fire Prevention Week on October 11 and 12. Students reviewed important safety procedures including what to do if they have a fire in their home.
Students from pre-k through 5th grade took an educational tour of a mobile smokehouse that simulated a real house during a fire. The smokehouse helps students practice what to do during a fire and alleviates some of that panic in an actual emergency situation.
Verizon also visited the elementary school to give students the opportunity to practice calling 911. Being able to practice calling 911 ahead of time makes it easier for children to recall the steps, even in a stressful emergency situation.
Thank you to the firefighters and Verizon staff that volunteered for our fire safety presentation!
