Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary held their 27th annual Veterans Day Ceremony on November 9. More than 80 guests including Veterans, local politicians and family members were in attendance. The ceremony consisted of patriotic songs sung by the K-5 students, musical numbers played by the Frankfort-Schuyler High School band, essays read by 5th graders Gia Kaleta and Joseph Mathlin, and many guest speakers and presenters. Special guests included state Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi, Maj. Scott Helmer and state Sen. James Seward. Kathy Ashe spoke about the Purple Heart earned by her son, Philip, during his 20 years of service with the U.S. Marine Corps. Veterans were also given the opportunity to introduce themselves and tell their story.

The ceremony was followed by a luncheon in the cafeteria for the Veterans, with many items donated from faculty and staff as well as many local businesses. Following the lunch, some of the Veterans visited classrooms and shared their stories and answered students’ questions.
