Students, teachers and staff at Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary School celebrated the week leading up to Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17 with a series of special theme days to spread extra kindness throughout their school and community.

The week began with Post-it Day on February 11, when a huge poster was hung in the cafeteria hallway and students were invited to take a Post-it and leave a kind thought or message for someone who may need it. Students were also given a Kindness Scavenger Hunt at the beginning of the week which they were able return to School Psychologist Mrs. Lambert or School Counselor Mrs. Williams for a bucket filler.

On Tuesday, students shared thank you messages with people that are special to them, including family members, teachers, friends, custodians, bus drivers, cafeteria workers and others.

Be a Buddy Day on Wednesday encouraged students to follow the Buddy Bench model which aims to eliminate loneliness and foster friendships throughout the day by playing with, interacting with, and/or helping someone who could use a friend and feel more included. Frankfort-Schuyler received a donation of two Buddy Benches for their playgrounds from the Frankfort Kiwanis Club this past fall.

Students spread the love on Valentine’s Day by wearing red or pink and giving special pink bucket fillers to their peers.

The week-long celebration wrapped up with High Five Friday of February 15 as teachers and staff welcomed students to school in the morning with a high five tunnel at the main entrance. The kindness continued with students high fiving teachers and peers they passed in the school hallways throughout the day.
